Xiaomi Redmi 9 to be announced in China soon: Full specifications and features leaked
Xiaomi has started teasing the launch of the Redmi 9 smartphone in China. After a set of teasers, some of which also showed the back panel of the Redmi 9, the company has finally confirmed the launch of the phone on November 30, which is tomorrow. To confirm the launch date, Xiaomi has put up a poster revealing the name of the phone – the Redmi 9.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 will be the successor to the Redmi 8 Pro and it will be the first Redmi phone with a triple camera setup at the back. The front and rear cameras will also support Artificial Intelligence (AI) for enhanced imaging capabilities.
The Redmi 9 will come with a display notch on top and it is likely to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Xiaomi had started teasing the device on Weibo with the caption “three cameras and a built-in portrait lighting light”. Earlier, a poster confirmed the device to have a 4000mAh battery.

According to the leak, the Redmi 9 will come with a 6.3-inch full HD+ display with a waterdrop style notch. It will have an in-display fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device. The phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor and have 6GB/8GB RAM along with 64GB/128GB of internal storage.
The front and rear cameras will be 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel respectively. The Redmi 9 is also expected to come with an AI-backed portrait lighting feature, which is available on the flagship Mi 8 series. On the camera front, the phone is expected to have a 5-megapixel selfie camera with AI features. The smartphone will come with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, with MIUI 10 skinned on top.
The Redmi 9 will be made available in four colours – Black, Blue, Red and Gold.
Earlier this year, the Redmi Note 7 was announced as the first device to come with a 48-megapixel camera setup. Xiaomi is also working on a Redmi phone with four cameras at the back. The Redmi S2 was earlier leaked in images showing an in-display fingerprint sensor and a triple rear camera setup. Xiaomi has scheduled an event on December 5 in China to launch the Redmi S2. It is unclear if Xiaomi will be unveiling the Redmi 9 at that event.
